What the .docx contains
A direct paste into Word keeps the Markdown syntax as typed characters. The file from this page maps that syntax onto Word objects:
- Headings become Word heading styles.
- Bulleted and numbered lists stay lists, including a nested item.
- A pipe table becomes a Word table, with column alignment.
- A fenced code block stays text: monospace, indentation, and the language label.
- Bold, italic, and links stay.
- LaTeX this converter already accepts (
$…$,$$…$$) becomes an equation object.
A README, a note, and a chat answer are the same kind of input. Notes that belong to one source stay on that page: task lists and Mermaid diagrams, other math delimiters, and fenced code.
The support table — tables, task lists, and footnotes this converter does not create — plus a Pandoc comparison, is Markdown to DOCX. This page stays the short map of what the file contains.
Before you send the file
Word, Word Online, and LibreOffice open this .docx.
What happens if the box is empty?
Download does not start. The status line asks you to paste Markdown first.
Is a dropped .md file a different converter?
No. A .md or .txt drop and a paste run the same conversion.
Does any of the Markdown leave this browser?
No. The .docx is built on this device. See the Privacy Policy at /privacy.
What if a formula does not convert?
It stays in the file with a label, rather than disappearing. Word can edit formulas that did convert. Google Docs often flattens those objects; the import note is on /chatgpt-to-google-docs.
