The job is the sources, not just the prose
Searchers asking how to put Perplexity into Word are usually staring at numbered markers in the paragraph and a Sources column that did not travel with a naive copy. Paste into Word from the rendered page and you often get the sentences, lose the URLs, and keep awkward spacing from the card layout. Paste the raw Markdown and you keep the links, then still have to turn pipes and hash headings into real styles.
This page is that second step, with the source list treated as part of the document. It is not a
Perplexity scraper and it does not “verify” citations. If a model invented a paper, the
.docx will faithfully preserve the invention until you delete it.
Copy so the links survive
- Let the answer finish. Copy from the answer’s own control when it is available.
- Paste into the converter. In the preview, find a citation marker and see whether it is a link.

Focus modes — web, academic, writing, social — change tone and which sources appear. They do not change these steps. Threads and collections are just more answers; convert the one you will stand behind, not the entire sidebar.

Perplexity Pages and shared threads
A Page is a designed article. Copy the text, then glance at heading levels: a Page sometimes styles small labels as headings, which makes a noisy Navigation pane. Demote those lines to bold if they are not real sections. Shared links still require you to copy from the open page. We do not fetch perplexity.ai URLs on a server, so a private or logged-in Page only converts on the machine where you can already read it.
Tables in research answers are GFM pipes more often than people notice, because the rendered UI looks like cards. If the preview shows pipes as a grid, you are in good shape. If a comparison stayed as bullets, leave it — do not rebuild it unless the columns matter. The table guide covers broken separator rows.
After Word opens
You still have an editing job, and it is a smaller one. Apply your normal font. Turn the Sources heading into your house style. Check that every inline marker has a matching entry. Drop sources you did not open. If the assignment wants APA, MLA, or Chicago, do that in Word: this converter does not invent hanging indents or italicize journal titles. How do I export a Perplexity answer to Word?
Use Copy on the answer so citation markers and Markdown survive. Paste here, scroll the preview to confirm the Sources list is present, then Download .docx. If Sources was a separate panel that Copy skipped, select that list and paste it under a Sources heading.
Do citation numbers stay clickable?
Markdown links become Word hyperlinks. A bare [1] with no URL stays as text. Open the preview and click one citation before you download if the reader must reach the source.
Does this include Perplexity Pages?
Only the text you copy. Pages is a published layout, not a file this site can fetch. Copy the page body, check heading levels, and convert. We never pull a Perplexity URL from our servers.
Will this build an APA bibliography?
No. You get editable paragraphs and links. Hanging indents, italic titles, and access dates are Word paragraph styles you apply after you verify each source. Perplexity citations are leads, not a finished reference list.
Is the answer uploaded?
No. Conversion runs in your browser. Optional drafts stay in localStorage on this device.
Pro Search or Academic focus — different export?
The focus changes the answer, not the converter. Whatever Markdown you copied is what becomes the .docx. Academic focus still needs you to check that the sources are real.
