Why “Grok to Word” is its own job
Grok (xAI) writes structured Markdown — headings, comparison tables, fenced code, and sometimes math —
but Word does not speak Markdown. Pasting from grok.com or the X timeline often lands as raw
## marks and pipe tables. ChatGPT2Word rebuilds that clipboard into a real
.docx with Word styles, privately in your browser.
This is not a full-thread chat exporter and not a Grok account scraper. It finishes the job when you
already have one answer (or a saved .md) and need an editable document for review, clients,
or submission — without installing a Chrome extension.
How to convert Grok to Word here
- Copy the Grok reply. Prefer the in-product Copy control so tables and code fences stay Markdown.
-
Paste into the converter above (or drop a
.md/.txtarchive). Check the live preview. - Optionally trim jokes / preamble if you only need the structured section.
- Press Ctrl/⌘+Enter or click Download .docx. Use Copy formatted when you already have Word open.
What converts cleanly from Grok
- ATX headings → Word Heading 1–6 styles (Navigation Pane works)
- Nested lists, task lists, bold / italic / strikethrough / inline code
- GFM pipe tables → real Word tables with column alignment
- Fenced code blocks with monospace + language labels
- Markdown links → clickable Word hyperlinks (handy for search-flavored Grok replies)
- Mermaid fences → diagram images in the .docx when render succeeds
- Common LaTeX → editable Word equations (OMML); failed fragments get an explicit label
Grok-specific tips (grok.com vs X)
- grok.com: usually the cleanest Markdown copy for long answers with tables and code.
- X / Grok in the app: copy quality varies. If paste looks like one plain paragraph, copy again from the web UI or export the reply to a text file and drop it here.
- Long / chatty replies: keep the final structured block for a cleaner stakeholder doc.
- Setup panel: set font, size, and margins before Download .docx when you need deliverable defaults.
- Full conversation archive: use a dedicated Grok→Word browser extension, or paste the turns you need under headings as in the conversation export guide. This page is the single-answer path with a preview.
Voice, image prompts, and the X character limit
Grok replies that start from a voice transcript or an image description often include a caption
line and then the actual answer. Keep the answer. A one-line caption can stay as a paragraph
under the title if the image itself did not copy — chat images rarely become a public URL on
the clipboard, so the .docx will contain the words, not the picture, unless the
Markdown has a real image link the browser can fetch.
Posts copied from X are short and sometimes lose line breaks. If the preview is one paragraph, you did not get the grok.com article version. Open the same reply on grok.com and copy again before you add headings by hand. Link-heavy news replies should keep their Markdown links; they become footnotes only if you build footnotes in Word later. This converter does not invent footnote fields from bare URLs.
Privacy first
Conversion runs in your browser. Your Grok answer is not uploaded for conversion, and you do not need an
account to download a .docx. See our Privacy Policy.

Grok → Word FAQ
Copy tips for grok.com / X, long answers, extensions vs paste, math, and privacy.
How do I export Grok (xAI) to Word?
On grok.com or x.com, copy the assistant reply (use the copy control when available so you get Markdown, not flattened plain text). Paste into ChatGPT2Word, check the live preview, then Download .docx — or Copy formatted into an already-open Word / Google Docs window.
Does this work from grok.com and the X app?
Yes for any place you can copy the answer as text/Markdown. Browser copy from grok.com is usually cleanest. The X / Grok mobile apps vary by version — if paste looks flat (no headings), try copying again from the web UI or save the reply as .md / .txt and drop the file here.
Grok answers can be long and chatty — any tips?
Trim conversational preamble in the left pane before download if you only need the structured section. Headings, lists, and tables in the remaining Markdown still map to Word styles. For research-style replies with many links, keep the Markdown links so they become clickable in the .docx.
Does this work with Grok code, tables, and math?
Yes — fenced code (with language labels), GFM tables, task lists, strikethrough, Mermaid fences (as diagram images when render succeeds), and common LaTeX math as editable Word equations (OMML) when conversion succeeds.
Extension vs paste converter — which should I use?
Use a Grok Chrome extension when you need a full multi-turn conversation archive in one click. Use this page when you already copied one answer (or a .md export) and want a live preview, real Word heading styles, tables, Mermaid images, and editable math — no install, nothing uploaded for conversion.
Is my Grok answer uploaded?
No. Conversion is browser-side. Optional drafts stay in localStorage on your machine. See the Privacy Policy.
Can I paste into Word without downloading?
Yes. Use Copy formatted (HTML + plain clipboard) and paste into Word or Google Docs. For editable OMML equations and heading styles in a new file, prefer Download .docx.
