Pandoc, a wiki, and a paste are not the same afternoon

If the Markdown already lives in a repository and you want a scripted .docx with a reference template, Pandoc is the right tool — install it, point it at the file, repeat in CI. This page is the other afternoon: a README, a chat answer, or a note you can paste, with a preview before anything hits disk. Mermaid fences become images here when they render; Pandoc leaves them as code unless you add a filter. Supported LaTeX becomes an editable Word equation here; Pandoc’s equation path depends on how you built the docx. Use the tool that matches the file you have, and use this one when you do not want a toolchain for a single document.

Dropping a .md is the same engine as paste. Several files at once — a folder of notes into a ZIP of Word documents — is the optional Pro batch action, not a second converter and not required for one file. Front matter between dashed metadata lines is for you, not the reader. Delete it when it should not open the Word file. Wiki-links with double brackets are not URLs; rewrite the ones a reader must click, which is the same constraint as Obsidian to Word.

GitHub-flavored task lists stay checkboxes in the sense of a marked item, not a Word content control you can click as a form. Strike-through survives for deleted requirements.
